How To Make The Best Breakfast Smoothie

You probably don’t know this about me, but I’m the daughter of THE BEST smoothie maker in the world. While I’m not as good as my mom, I did want to share with you my breakfast smoothie recipe. It’s so good your kids will want to lick the blender, and so healthy you’ll feel good all morning.

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup milk (I use Publix’s GreenWise Organic Fat-Free Milk)
  • 1/2 cup  juice (I use pomegranate)
  • 1/2 cup frozen fruit (I use raspberries)
  • Scoop of Whey protein (I use vanilla flavored, but my mom uses cake batter flavored) – note: this ingredient makes the smoothie’s texture better and adds a flavor base. If I have nothing of athletic value to do all day, I still add half a scoop to make it taste better.
  • Scoop of Green Superfood
  • 1 Tbsp chia gel (recipe below) or flax-seed

What you do: Put it all in your blender and blend.

How to make Chia Gel: In a Tupperware container combine 1 cup juice (I just use my pomegranate) and 2 Tbsp chia seeds. Close lid and let sit for 15 minutes. Shake the container before using. It will last in the fridge for a week.

Why is chia gel important? Chia seeds are a nutritionally dense food. They contain antioxidants, vitamin Bs, minerals and your omega 3 fatty acids. They also digest slowly, so your blood sugar is stabilized. This means that you wont crash at 10am. Unless you were out all night, then chia seeds can’t help you. You’re supposed to make the chia seeds into a gel so we can digest it better. It also helps hydrate you if you’re working out a lot, and makes you feel fuller.

“But I’m running late!”

Cool. I’m always running late, so I created this quick “smoothie” recipe.

Take a tall travel mug and fill half way with your juice (if you use orange juice, this ends up tasting like an Orange Julius). Then add a half scoop protein and a full scoop Green Superfood. Fill the rest of the mug up with your milk. Mix as you run out the door and/or search desperately for your keys.
